about the course

The "Dare to Create"  course assumes that you have a basic understanding of photography and are keen to unleash your creativity and  improve your editing skills.

We will be using Photoshop as our primary editing tool.  If you have a laptop (or portable desktop) computer with Photoshop installed, please bring it along.  If you do not, you will still gain enormously from the course.  There will be handouts to refer to when you take all of your new knowledge home with you.  For those without a laptop, I have a two Mac computers available for use in the workshop.

Please make sure to bring a writing pad and a pencil for note taking.

throughout the session

This workshop will encompass both working to improve One Solid Image like the image above of the Sydney Skyline, as well as creating images by compositing like the Kookaburra Sits Image.

We will discuss assembling our image library including how to create and use interesting textures, basic colour and exposure correction and removal of distractions.  We will work on stacking images and editing using the masking tool.   Blending, Blend if, a discussion about Luminosity Masks, Gradients, Adjustment Layers, Vectors, Brushes and Typography are all topics that we will cover during the course.

Instead of just discussing how to create these images, each student will create a "Piece of Art" in our workshop using a variety of images and techniques.  You will find yourself gaining new knowledge and inspiration and leave with a renewed sense of what you can achieve when you open your mind to it's amazing creative potential.  If you have a particular image that you have taken that you love and would really like to improve, bring it along.

Finally, now that you have created this beautiful work, what will you do with it?  We will discuss the importance of printing your work and the various media available on the market today including creating high quality Photobooks like Momento, printing onto metal, on fine art papers and on canvas.

Morning Tea, Afternoon Tea, Coffee and Tea will keep us company throughout the day.
